No’kmaq Village offering older-workers program The Flat Bay Band Inc. (No’kmaq Village), as part of its Living Circle, is offering a “Targeted Initiative for Older Workers” program. As part of the program, No’kmaq Village is providing a wage subsidy to employers who want to hire Mi’kmaq, older displaced workers aged 55 to 64 years. Workers involved in the program will receive six weeks of training and employment preparation, gaining certifications in first aid, WHMIS, trenching and excavation, confined space, fall protection, traffic control, power line hazards and SuperHost Atlantic. No’kmaq Village will pay the workers for their first four weeks of employment for participating businesses and the workers would start on-the-job training with the business on Nov. 21 and should require little to no supervision by Dec. 19 as they start on subsidized payroll. Employers in the Bay St. George area wanting to hear more about Living Circle workers, wage subsidy and term options can call 647-1370 by Oct.
